As declared on the box, the Rii is a mini keyboard. Obviously, I’m talking about the size in comparison to a normal keyboard – and it’s much smaller. Nearly all regular computer keyboard are more or less 18x2x8 inches, however this unit is only 5.9in x 2.3 in x 0.5in and weighs in at merely 3.2 ounces. It’s not merely tiny but it’s also lightweight, making it good for carrying around or for keeping it in a bag when you need it on the move. Because it’s so tiny, this mini keyboard fits nicely between your hands for a comfortable typing experience.
You are able to use this mini keyboard with gaming systems like PS3 or wiki, and with desktop computers and laptop computers. Wires are redundant with this mini keyboard’s wireless capability, provided by a Bluetooth USB receiver, so you can quickly connect to other wireless electronic gadgets. The keyboard features the common QWERTY layout, and also the convenience of a touchpad like those we know from laptops. There are also 26 LED lights built into this product for when the surrounding lighting is dark. This mini keyboard is supplied standard with two rechargeable lithium ion batteries, which lets it operate.
Many of the product users on Amazon (of which there are a lot) have given 4 and 5 star ratings to this mini keyboard. But maybe this device’s first appearances are misleading, as there are also a number of ratings falling between 1 and 3 stars. One observation was that the device didn’t work well with an Ubuntu system over a range of 30 feet, but it was rather good within that. 30 feet is rather a respectable distance however. Both playlist and volume button controls are furnished on this device, which is fantastic if the planned use is multimedia in character. Often, one wants a button that is not typically required; it’s fantastic that this keyboard caters for some of those rare needs which can be frustrating if not met.
No product is perfect, and so there are several failings that have to be brought up. What is a bit of a hassle now and then is that the touchpad is not as accurate as we are used to with regular laptop computer touchpads. Another annoyance – which can be circumvented by using the mouse buttons for left and right instead – is that the touchpad is a bit insensitive to tapping. There is a quirk with the QWERTY layout, in that the keys on the board are directly underneath each other, whereas they are staggered on a normal keyboard Although it does take time to get used to it, it is not a serious issue.
The Rii is a good device for people looking for a small keyboard that comes with a touch pad. There are some little minuses but the good things outweigh them, particularly at such an affordable price.
